New Year – New Style!

From vibrant reds, lush greenery to striking black matte finishes… Let’s take a quick look at a few upcoming design trends of 2018!

When trying to incorporate design trends into one’s home décor, I always recommend doing so with accessories. Accessories can have a big impact and change the overall look of a room. They are also less expensive to upgrade and easy to change with every season. Accessories are also a great way to combine decor trends and add your personal style to a space.

Here are some tips to amp up your style in 2018!

Try incorporating tonal reds. Reds bring warmth and elegance to a space. It is easy to incorporate this energizing trend by adding some bright throw pillows to your neutral sofa.  For a more luxurious look, try using red velvet accent pillows. Combine different textures and don’t be afraid to pair different shades of red together, from deep reds to bright corals and soft pinks. The combination of different shades or red is what makes this trend fresh for 2018. Add pops of colour to your space with bright vases or new place mats!

Greenery has been a strong trend over the last few years. Bring the outdoors inside by adding houseplants to your space for an easy and budget friendly natural look. Try large scale floor plants for a bigger impact, or hanging plants in hand painted pots for an eclectic feel. If you are like me and don’t have much of a green thumb, add a single tree branch or willow branches in a tall vase for a unique look. This trend is also easily incorporated by using textiles with leafy prints, throw pillows or bedding, even dinnerware with plant and nature motifs.

Graphic black and white is a trend that will never go out of style. From black and white geometric flooring, to striking midnight black walls, this trend is growing in popularity. If you are looking to make a statement, try painting an accent wall in your dining room in a strong shade of black like Benjamin Moore’s Black Beauty 2128-10. Accentuate the space with black and white photography in sleek black frames, (you can even use your own pictures!) for a gallery inspired wall piece. Not that courageous? No problem, simply add some new serving and houseware in a handsome black matte finish to anchor your table, or a sleek black and white printed table cloth.

I hope that you are inspired to try some of these design trends in your space and make it your own in 2018! Stay tunned for more. - Michelle
