Think Pink!!

Colours are known to evoke a mood, represent a feeling and distinguish personality. Pink is a powerful colour, one that seems to be either loved or loathed, depending on personal tastes.

Working in the design industry, I am constantly bombarded with colour and patterns. I tend to keep my own personal surroundings neutral and calm, without a lot of colour, however pink holds a special place in my heart.

Truth be told a long time ago I once changed all of the handles on my basic white kitchen cabinetry in my first apartment to a lovely shade of baby pink. This is not for the faint hearted and certainly not everyone’s taste, but it put a smile on my face at the time.

We typically think of pink for a little girl’s room, but pink can also be quite grown up when used in a bold, punchy shade like Benjamin Moore’s Crushed Berries.

In this dining room, a lovely textured pink hued grass cloth wall covering is paired with both solid and patterned pink fabrics on the chairs, which go perfectly with the pops of pink in the area rug. All these aspects combined create a warm, inviting and sophisticated mood, proving that pink can make a big statement.

I used Benjamin Moore’s Gypsy Pink in this pool area bathroom paired with vintage postcards from Hawaii and completed the look with colourful beach towels to turn this basic bath into a fun beach cabana.

Artwork is another way to add in a pop of pink. I recently acquired this fun and unique piece by artist Christopher Boffoli and I just love how it adds a punch of personality to my living area.

How cute is this sofa from Structube! Paired with the beachy themed artwork and blue accents, this is a subtle way of adding personality to the space.

In Ottawa you will not see too many houses painted pink, but in the South there are quite a few spectacular homes that will lift your spirits. I was absolutely gobsmacked when I saw this stunning home on a recent visit to New Orleans.

Whether your personal décor style is traditional, modern or minimalist, there is always room to add a little or a lot of pink. - Michelle
